Coyote Point Systems' Load Balancer Outperforms Barracuda in Hands-On Tests by The Tolly Group

Coyote Point Systems, Inc., a leading provider of Web application acceleration systems, announced the results of independent testing by The Tolly Group that demonstrate that Coyote Point's Equalizer E350si, a full-featured server load balancing and application traffic management device, surpasses F5 gear on performance and price, delivering more than 2x greater performance and throughput than F5 Networks' BIG-IP 1500 at less than 40 percent of the price. In addition, the test results show the E350si as having competitive performance to F5's much more expensive BIG-IP 3400, and offered compelling price/performance advantages.

The tests, which included software updates and device configuration files provided by F5 Networks for its BIG-IP devices, demonstrated that Coyote Point's E350si, the company's entry- level Layer 7 solution, costs three to four times less on a cost-per-transaction basis and 30 to 50 percent less in terms of the cost-per-Mbps of throughput served than F5's BIG-IP 3400.

"Test results show that Coyote Point's Equalizer 350si outperformed the BIG-IP 1500 in every test, delivers near-comparable performance to the much more expensive BIG-IP 3400 and offers compelling price/performance advantages," said Kevin Tolly, President and CEO of The Tolly Group. "Scaling a Web site means running multiple back-end servers with a load balancer to distribute the incoming load efficiently and to maximize the server farm performance. Layer 4-7 network traffic management systems or Web switches must offer sufficient performance. But most of all they must demonstrate that they offer a competitive price/performance to ensure maximum value and effectiveness in actual customer deployments."
