AIDS Control Society, UP India has decided to install condom vending machines at important locations such as malls, markets, hospitals, cinema halls, etc. as an effort to promote safe sex.
This move by the UP state AIDS Control Society was taken after it was found that people still hesitate buying condoms from medical stores. Though most of the people are aware of the risk involved when not using a condom, people are still not comfortable with the word ‘Condom’ and often hesitate getting one from a medical shop.
Hesitation often leads to unsafe sex and increase risk of sexually transmitted diseases. UP State AIDS Control Society is planning to install 200+ condom vending machines in Lucknow and about 350 in Kanpur.
First week of December will also see various AIDS related programmes by the UP State AIDS Control Society which will throw light on HIV and AIDS, Sexuality, Health (Physical, Mental, Sexual), myths and misconceptions. UP State AIDS Control Society will also impart education in school/colleges.
With the AIDS awareness day coming closer (December 1st) AIDS Control Society are gearing up to make the most of it and to impart education to curb the diseases.
Only time will tell if condom vending machines would really be a zero-embarrassment option as the place they will be installed will have more people around than at a medical store.
Safe Sex! Safe Life!
